Employee Story Bianca Fischer – “I like the variety of my tasks: I take part in different projects and I also work interdisciplinary.”
Bianca works as Project Chemist in the Advanced Material team in the Development Center, Muenster. She started with Armacell in July 2015 and since then has been working on different research projects, e.g. development of a new insulation product.
Before she joined Armacell, Bianca studied Polymer Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth and worked at the Polymer Engineering department at the University. Now she is about to finish her PhD thesis on “PMMA/Layered Silicate Nanocomposites”. During her time at the University of Bayreuth she already came in contact with an Armacell product:
In the context of a project we did different measurements on a PET foam product from our plant in Thimister. That’s how I got to know Armacell.
"Now, I have been working here for a few months and I already learned a lot: During my studies at university I just focused on thermoplastic materials. It is quite exciting and challenging to widen my horizon and learn more and more about the complex field of elastomers, especially the foaming process.”
In July, when Bianca started her new job, she was introduced to the team and met all R&D colleagues within the first few days. Now she feels like home already:
“Although I´m very far away from home, I feel very valued in the team. This is not only based on the very good working atmosphere but also on the regular after work activities, like eating out together, a visit at the Christmas market or bowling. Because of the short distances and the great team spirit here at Armacell, I learned to know the other departments quite quickly.”
Apart from that – what does Bianca like about her new workplace?
“I like the variety of my tasks: In the context of my projects I start with a fundamental research on small scale in the laboratory and afterwards switch to upscaling trials on the production lines. Therefore I have the possibility to give support to a project from the very beginning to the finalization – that is in the best case a new product.
The chance to be creative – that is another aspect which I consider a great privilege: I can come up with new ideas and solutions and put them into practice. “
The quality control of dispersion is Bianca’s very own project. “At the moment I’m researching literature and looking for adequate equipment. The goal is to find the best method to analyze and evaluate the dispersion quality of rubber compounds. I’m looking forward to finding new solutions that help Armacell to develop further.”
